GHMC staff loses special tag
Hyderabad: The honeymoon period for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) employees will come to an end soon, with the TS government deciding to bring in unified service rules by amending the Munici-pal Act to allow transfer of GHMC employees to municipalities anywhere in the state.
The TS government is likely to approve the amendment Bill in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday.
According to the existing Act, GHMC employees cannot be transferred to any other municipality in the state, but only from one circle to another within GHMC limits.
The government feels this system is leading to corrupt practices. Chief Minister K Chandra-sekhar Rao has himself stated this.
In a press conference recently, Mr Rao said that there is large-scale corruption in the GHMC, particularly in the town planning and engineering departments. He said that the state government had appointed a cabinet sub-committee to form unified service rules to transfer GHMC employees to other municipalities in the state.
The cabinet sub-committee drafted the rules and submitted them to the Chief Minister who approved the draft rules and directed officials to prepare the amendment bill accordingly.
Sources said the Municipal Amendment Bill is listed in the agenda of the cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday. The government will introduce the bill in the coming Assembly session.
