Thiruvananthapuram: TDB to tell on violence at Sabarimala to Supreme Court

Thiruvananthapuram:The devaswom board will inform the Supreme Court of its stand on the entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 in Sabarimala only if the court seeks its opinion.

This was decided by the TDB at a meeting held here on Friday. It will apprise the court of the protest and violence at Sabarimala during the Thulamasa pooja and Sree Chitra Atta Thirunal and tell the court that it was ready to implement the court’s decision.

The board decided to engage senior advocate Aryama Sundaram in the Supreme Court on November 13 when it will hear a bunch of petitions seeking review of its verdict.

Earlier, Mr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing the board, had made clear his unavailability. Mr Singh-vi will now represent former board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan who has submitted a review petition.

Senior counsel Bina Madhavan, who represented the board earlier, also opted out due to the differences of opinion with the board’s stand. Sources said that board president A. Padma-kumar had met both Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan before the board meeting on Friday. The decision not to oppose the entry of young women in Sabarimala was taken after the meeting, sources said.
