Thiruvananthapuram: Paddy revival plan to be extended

As part of organic farming in Kalamachal, 4000 kg of paddy was harvested in 10 acres of land last month.

Thiruvananthapuram: After the success of joint venture of the Bharat Bhavan and local bodies to revive farmland at Kalamachal in Vamanapuram, the organisation has now decided to extend the programme to Kannur, Thrissur and parts of Thiruvananthapuram covering 20 acres of land.

The programme would also be extended to Kottayam district. Apart from paddy, the focus this time will also be on organic vegetable farming and fish culture.

As part of organic farming in Kalamachal, 4000 kg of paddy was harvested in 10 acres of land last month.

The rice grown there would be distributed to families in Kuttanad and Changanassery who were affected by floods in August, within two weeks. The programme included cultural programmes and staging of Edasshery's play 'Koottukrishi' to encourage the people for taking up organic farming.
