Madras HC directs police not to arrest 'Sarkar' director
Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the police not to arrest A.R.Murugadoss, the director of the Tamil film “Sarkar” starring popular film star Vijay, which came under harsh attack from the ruling AIADMK party for allegedly depicting certain scenes against the party, till November 27.
Granting the interim relief, Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan directed Murugadoss to co-operate with the inquiry being conducted by the police and posted to November 27, further hearing of the petition filed by Murugadoss, seeking anticipatory bail.
When the petition came up for hearing on Friday, additional public prosecutor S.Prabavathy, appearing for the police submitted that only preliminary investigation is being conducted on the complaint given by one Devarajan against Murugadoss.
Certain scenes in the film, which depicted the ruling party in poor light, have created law and order problem, she added.Vivekanandan, counsel for Murugadoss, submitted that the objectionable scenes had already been removed from the film.
In his petition, Murugadoss submitted that in the case on hand, none of the public had raised slogans and rebel against the government.
Per contra, the members of the ruling party had been persistently agitating against the film which was nothing but misleading the general public and creating chaos among them. Prior to the release of the film “Sarkar”, the censor board has certified the movie and only after which it was released on November 6. Therefore, after the certification granted by the officials of censor board, it would be highly illegal to raise slogans, agitations and protest against the said movie by the members of ruling party of Tamil Nadu by demanding removal of scenes from the movie and damaging the banners which was impermissible under the law, he added.
