He said, The US has technology and no problems. India has problems and has no technology.

Hyderabad: Maker Faire, regarded as India’s biggest festival to celebrate arts, crafts and engineering of makers, commenced at Hitex on Friday. The event is being organised by T-Works, the hardware prototyping initiative of the Telangana government.

IT principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan said, “Everyone is a maker. Throughout my life I was led to believe that there was only one Maker up in the air, but I am proved wrong. Given an opportunity and nurture talent everyone can become an innovator, a maker.”

With 200 exhibitors including life-sized installations, artwork, workshops and master classes, the show is open till November 11 from 10 am to 8 pm with free entry. Several students are showcasing ideas they have developed at the Maker Faire.

Mr Ramanan Ramanathan, mission director of the Atal Innovation Mission said, “The country has 1.3 billion people, 1.4 million schools, 10,500 engineering colleges and 150 million students enter job market. We must make use of the demographic dividend. The maker movement is necessary for the country. We must be a community of job creators.”

He said, “The US has technology and no problems. India has problems and has no technology. The maker mindset has to develop in parents and corporate”.

About 360 makers put up the first edition of Maker Faire Hyderabad. A Swiss startup delegation is visiting the festival.
