Hyderabad: Expert calls for more research

Mr Ramanathan said Indians fared well when an ecosystem was provided to them.

Hyderabad: There are only 220 researchers per million in India and there should be more, said Mr Ramanan Ramanathan, mission director, Atal Innovation Mission.

Mr Ramanathan attributed the dearth of researchers to the “job-seeking” attitude. He was speaking at the two-day Things Conference that commenced at HICC on Friday. He asked the people grab the opportunity given by Internet of Things and become innovators.

He said, “As part of the Atal Innovation Mission the target is to create 5,441 tinkering labs of which 2,000 are operational. There are about 100 incubators in universities and we hope that at least 5,000 startups will come out of them in four years.

The Things Conference is taking place for the first time in India, bringing together global technology leaders and experts, governments, academia, research organisations and industrialists to discuss the immense possibilities with IoT and LoRaWAN — Low Power, Long Range Wide Area Network technology

Mr Ramanathan said Indians fared well when an ecosystem was provided to them. We want to make thousands of Satya Nadellas and Sundar Pichais here, he said, referring to the chiefs of Microsoft and Google.
