Tipu Jayanti today, security up in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: As the city is set to celebrate the Tipu Jayanti on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of the 18th-century ruler of the Mysore kingdom, the city police have made elaborate security arrangements to avert any untoward incident.
City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar told reporters that no procession or protest related to Tipu Jayanti would be allowed. “We are not giving permission to any procession, whether it is in favour of Tipu Jayanti or against it. The government itself is celebrating the event in various parts of the city for which we have made elaborate arrangements,” he said.
As many as 11,000 police personnel, 30 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons and 25 armed platoons, besides home guards, will be deployed in the city, especially in the sensitive areas, the Commissioner added.
He said the police would keep a vigil on anti-social elements and anyone violating the law or trying to create tension would be dealt with an iron hand."We have not made any preventive arrests so far, but if the situation arises, section 144 (prohibitory order) may be imposed,” he said.
These security arrangements from the city police are in addition to the ‘Good Morning Beat’ launched by the state government to keep an eye on the anti-social elements.
