New Delhi: The victory of Donald Trump in the US Presidential polls could mean good news for India. Mr Trump is seen to have a strong view on terror and India will no doubt be hoping that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism against India and Afghanistan is something Mr Trump will focus on.
The Trump victory is also certain to lead to strong ties between the US and Russia in view of the perceived bonhomie between Mr Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, something which would be of immense relief to India.
Former Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar sounded a word of caution. “Trump will focus on fighting ISIS. It remains to be seen whether he will be tough on Pakistan. It wants to maintain a presence in Pakistan since it does not want any threat to the nuclear arsenal from Islamic groups and it also does not want to push Pakistan into the arms of China,” she said.
