Table Manippady report or face action: Karnataka High Court

The court was hearing a contempt petition filed against the principal secretary for not tabling the report before the legislature.

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday gave Principal Secretary of the Minority Department a final chance to place the Anwar Manippady report, on encroachment of Wakf properties, before the Legislative Assembly and Council within four weeks, failing which charges will be framed against him.

The court was hearing a contempt petition filed against the principal secretary for not tabling the report before the legislature, as directed by the court on September 10, 2015.

Manippady, a former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, had submitted the report to the then BJP-led government in March, 2012, but it was not tabled in the Assembly.

Former minister S.K. Kantha had filed the contempt petition against the state government for its failure to place the report before the legislature, despite an undertaking by the state on September 10, 2015. The case stands adjourned to November 12.
