Bengaluru: The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided to take up the case of pollution by Graphite India Limited (GIL). The concerns of the residents in Whitefield were brought to the court's notice.
Member of the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) Sunita Narain told the apex court that the company was using Indian pet coke. The EPCA also brought to court's notice that Grpahite India was supposed to use imported needle coke which has low sulphur content.
The residents of Whiefield have been fighting tirelessly to make GIL adhere to Karnataka State Pollution Control (KSPCB) standards.
The black soot emanating from the company enters the residential complexes and on roads thereby contributing to high levels of pollution.
