Mysuru: Security beefed up

The police department is also setting up 30 police help desks with the cops wearing the badge 'May I help you.

Mysuru: Mysuru city police have beefed up security measures in the Heritage City for the ten-day long Dasara festivities which will begin on Wednesday.

Besides special forces, 5,284 policemen, 1,600 home guards and 1,053 traffic policemen will be on duty to ensure law and order, according to Mysuru city police commissioner Dr A Subramanyeswar Rao. In addition to them, for the last two days of the festivities on October 18 and 19, there will be 3,030 more policemen and home guards. There will also be 75 policemen and officers for ensuring VIP security besides 40 Mysuru city commandos, 23 anti-sabotage teams, 23 dog squads and 3 bomb disposal squads.

The state government has sanctioned a Rs 2.5 crore mobile command centre to handle emergencies which will be equipped with four CCTV cameras, four drones and 11 body worn cameras to capture any incident.

The police department is also setting up 30 police help desks with the cops wearing the badge 'May I help you. Home guards trained by the tourism department will function as pravasi mithras, along with the police at the help desks.
