CPM will go to masses on Sabari

The CPM leader welcomed the SNDP's stand on the current agitation in the state against Suprme Court verdict.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM will launch a massive state-wide campaign demanding the withdrawal of the current agitation against the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to enter Sabarimala temple.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told mediapersons here on Tuesday that the BJP and Congress were attempting to launch second liberation struggle in the state. Under the garb of Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala, the RSS is trying to trigger violence in the state.

He was speaking after the state secretariat meeting in AKG Centre. “The KPCC leadership has turned into Sangh Parivar’s mega phone. Oppositoin leader Ramesh Chennithala is functionig as BJP's agent,” Kodiyeri said.

The CPM leader welcomed the SNDP’s stand on the current agitation in the state against Suprme Court verdict. SNDP is an organization of Sree Narayana Guru who palayed a decisive role in state's social reform movement. They have taken up the historic responsibility now. The NSS should also come forward to uphold the ideals of Mannathu Padmanabhan,” he said.

Kodiyeri said at many places RSS tried to attack Devaswom Board offices, vehicles of ministers as part of their plan to trigger violence in the state. BJP is adopting contradictory stand on the Sabarimala issue. The BJP natoinal leadership had earlier welcomed the verdict. But now the party is trying to incite people for making political gains. If the BJP has serious differences with the Supreme Court verdict then the central leadship of that party should make it clear whether it would bring a legislation to circumvent the apex court order.

He said the Congress stand on the Sabaimala issue was suicidal. They should change their present position.

The CPM state secretary said the constitution has given equal rights to men and women. In a country which follows rule of law, there is no other option but to implement the court verdict. The present agitation is a challenge to the rule of law and constitution.

“All right thinking people should use this opportunity to uphold the age old secular values. We will not allow the RSS to hold Kerala to ransom. CPM is not a party in Sabarimala case in the Supreme Court. We don’t ferry men or women to Sabarimala, this is not our party's duty. We are not agianst any temple. The parties concerned should be able to convince the Supreme Court about the rituals and customs. The violent protests in the state are not in tune with the rich tradition or harmony prevaiing in the state.”
