Siddaramaiah sets 15-day deadline to fill all potholes in Bengaluru

The agencies have been directed to use cold mix instead of hot mix to fix potholes, he said.

Bengaluru: Setting a 15-day deadline to fill all the potholes in the city, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday declared that the state government will not hesitate to initiate disciplinary action against engineers and contractors who fail to meet the deadline.

The chief minister who held a high-level meeting with officers also decided to release Rs 700 crore to fill potholes as well as develop good roads in the city. The meeting also resolved to constitute a special task force soon to monitor debris and garbage dumping on roadsides in the city.

After the meeting with BBMP, Bescom, BMRCL and BDA officials here, Mr Siddaramaiah said that the condition of roads in the city has deteriorated as Bengaluru received heavy rains for the last 42 days. “The agencies too expressed their inability to take up pothole-filling drive because of the rain, but I have given them a strict deadline. There are 1,500 main roads across the city where potholes have come up in the last 42 days," he said.

The agencies have been directed to use cold mix instead of hot mix to fix potholes, he said.

Responding to BJP's allegations that substandard works are being done, he asked why the BJP, which has 100 members in the BBMP, had not kept a watch on materials used in their wards. “We are releasing funds to each ward and work is simultaneously started in all wards. How can the BJP blame us over quality issues? They should come to us with concrete evidence,” he snapped.
