AP CRDA clarifies on report release for funding capital

The CRDA has issued details of the contact persons Mr Sudip Mozumder at New Delhi.

VIJAYAWADA: The AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has jumped into damage control mode following reports that the World Bank had not arrived at any decision on funding the construction of the capital Amaravati.

The CRDA stated that the report of the World Bank Group’s institutional accountability unit, regarding a request to investigate the compliance with its internal policies while preparing the proposed Amaravati Sustainable Capital City Development Project (ASCCDP), was inadvertently released into the public domain briefly before it being reviewed by the World Bank’s Board of executive directors.

In a communiqué on Tuesday, the CRDA attached the mail sent to them by the World Bank, which stated that the Board was yet to take a view on whether there are sufficient grounds for the inspection panel to investigate the World Bank’s due diligence of the proposed ASCCDP.

“We would also like to clarify that the inspection panel process does not affect project preparation or implementation. In case of the ASCCDP, the bank team will continue to work with the government to strengthen the preparation and design of the bank-financed investments as per the agreed schedule,” the CRDA comminique said.

“It is important to note that the inspection panel’s mandate is to examine the World Bank’s compliance with its own institutional policies, and not the activities of any government agency or programme,” stated the World Bank, according to the CRDA communiqué.

The CRDA has issued details of the contact persons Mr Sudip Mozumder at New Delhi, and Mr Alex Ferguson, at Washington but did not provide their designation.
