Heavy rain has vegetable prices soaring in Hyderabad

Low supply of essential local vegetables is the reason behind the hike in prices.

Hyderabad: After the relatively low prices in the second and third weeks of September, prices of essential vegetables have again risen in city markets due the last month’s heavy rains.

Low supply of essential local vegetables like tomato, brinjal, ribbed gourd, cauliflower, potato, cluster beans and field beans, and non-local vegetables like carrot and French beans is the reason behind the hike in prices, besides shortfall of the crop in Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Warangal districts due to the rains.

Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazaar estate officer K.R. Vijay Kumar said, “Farmers from Chevella and its surrounding areas are cultivating carrot. But when the crop was about to be harvested, the heavy rains led to a shortfall in most of crops.”
