TIRUCHY: Tension prevailed for a while when members of various organisations including residents welfare associations quarreled with the police when the later prevented the agitators to enter into the municipal corporation office premises at Tiruchy on Monday.

According to the agitators, they wanted to submit a petition to the corporation commissioner, appealing to him to reduce the abnormal hike in house tax but the police prevented them.

Following the continuing protest against the police action, the cops allowed a small group of protesters to present their memorandums to the corporation officials and disburse peacefully.
