Kochi: Talks fail, CITU members to continue Muthoot strike

KOCHI: The employees the Muthoot Finance owing allegiance of the CITU of have decided to continue their indefinite strike as the conciliatory talks with labour minister T. P. Ramakrishnan failed on Monday.

The minister said he would hold another round of talks after Onam and resolve all outstanding issues soon.

Earlier, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the government had taken the initiative to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the NBFC, in a statement, said that there are no "industrial relations issues", but a typical case of law and order which has to be resolved by the home ministry, not the labour ministry."The company respect all labour regulations. But, nobody has any right to obstruct any willing employee to enter the workplace and do his/ her work. Unfortunately, external gundas are creating physical obstruction and blockade in the entrance of branches, under the banner of CITU, shouting vulgar languages and threats of physical assault towards our willing employees who regularly come to enter the branch to attend their work," the statement reads.

It also has taken a considered decision to close down 43 branches in Kerala, which are found to be strategically un-important.

Meanwhile, it also warned that disciplinary action by law against employees who are involved in acts of violence and physical obstructions.

The employees union, under the banner of Non-Banking and Private Finance Employees Association (NPFEA), started an indefinite strike on August 20 citing paltry salary and denial of decent bonus.
