Financial package for BSNL on cards: Arjun Ram Meghwal

He said this while addressing the media to detail the achievements of the second Narendra Modi Government in 100 days.

KOCHI: Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said here on Monday that giving financial package to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is under the consideration of the Union Finance Minister while the discussions regarding BSNL-Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited(MTNL) merger are now on.

He said this while addressing the media to detail the achievements of the second Narendra Modi Government in 100 days.

He said that the government will not let down BSNL. "The issues in BSNL have been there since 1995 and did not crop up all on a sudden. I also don't understand why the unions are opposing the merger talks with MTNL," he said.

The minister also said that the proceedings to disinvest the shares of Air India have begun and added that the current slowdown that the economyis facing is only temporary.

"India's position in the economic domain which was previously 11 has reached five now. India will scale to third position," the minister added.

Mr Meghwal also said that during the first Parliament session of the Modi Government, most number of Bills were passed.

"These Bills are those touching people of all levels of society. The Bill on Triple Talaq stregthens Muslim women while the move on Kashmir also is a bold one. The Prime Minister has won three international awards also," Mr Meghwal said.
