Shocker: Trash on Infantry Road too!

The area comes under Shivajinagar constituency that is known for civic woes. Of late Infantry road too has fallen prey to garbage menace.

Bengaluru: Known for government buildings and media houses, Infantry Road is considered to be one of the busiest and posh streets, given its proximity to High Court and Cubbbon Park.

The area comes under Shivajinagar constituency that is known for civic woes. Of late Infantry road too has fallen prey to garbage menace.

Right opposite to the office of Alternative Law Forum, a pile of garbage is strewn on the pathway.

“This is a daily affair. Several wards in Shivajinagar constituency are like that. I will not put the entire blame on BBMP, since most of the shopkeepers illegally dump garbage at night,” said Sonu Sinha, a commuter whose office is near Infantry Road.

Sinha even said that the municipal agency should impose stringent fines on such violations. “The municipal workers lift garbage every day, but if this continues, the pile would keep increasing and it would be difficult for the pedestrians to use the road,” he added.

Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar lost his cool over the civic mess while visiting one of the localities in Shivajinagar.

Residents allege that despite several attempts by the BBMP to curb garbage littering, mostly by shop owners and nearby residents throw garbage by the road side at night.

“The dump spots eats into the road space and makes it difficult for the vehicles to move, often leading to congestion. There are health hazards too. Unfortunately, many citizens are under the impression that if garbage is not in their home and on the street they will not get affected,” said Ankit Prakash, a local resident.

The residents allege that most of the areas in Shivajinagar like Sultanji Gunta Road, Thimmaiah Road are notorious for garbage pile ups. They are apprehensive that if the garbage menace is not dealt with strictly how long would the residents suffer.
