Telangana: Three Bangladeshi nationals held with fake IDs

Police said the detainees do not have any links with the ISIS and the are being checked for overstaying.

Hyderabad: The Telangana police and Central agencies detained a Bangladeshi and his two sons, including a minor, for checking their details. The trio were picked up on Friday night from P&T Colony in Sun City. They were detained after the cops received a tip-off about foreigners staying illegally in the city.

Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said they do not have any links with the ISIS and their antecedents are being checked for overstaying.

Meanwhile, the UP police also denied reports that they have arrested a person from Hyderabad. Earlier on Saturday, there were rumours that the National Investigating Agency (NIA) had detained three persons for alleged links with ISIS. Later, it turned out that a team from the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad, and the Cyberabad police had detained three persons of a family.

Reports said the person who was detained was suspected to have connections with a criminal arrested in UP a week ago. But the UP police denied the reports. “We have not picked up anyone from Hyderabad in connection with any case,” said a senior police official of UP ATS.

But the reports turned out to be fake after Cyberabad police confirmed they have detained three persons for obtaining fake identity documents and for overstaying after visa expiry. The trio are Abdul Qayyum, 50, a Bangladeshi and his two sons aged 19 and 17, whose names were not revealed.

Inquiries revealed that Qayyum came to India in 2009 on a Bangladeshi passport and was staying in Sun City. Even after expiry of his visa he continued to stay. He had also obtained Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and other ID proofs for himself and his family. Using the fraudulently acquired documents he had even purchased land and constructed a house a few years ago.

Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said the persons are being questioned and no case had been registered against them. “We are inquiring how they could got ID proofs,” he said.
