Pay more to GHMC to shift debris

The GHMC will issue a receipt which has to be produced by the applicant to the GHMC circle office for removal of the debris

Hyderabad: Along with building permission fee, applicants will have to pay an additional charge to remove construction debris.

The rate has been fixed at Rs 12 per sq ft for an existing structure that needs to be demolished and re built and Rs 50 for a new construction.

The money will go towards creating centralised concrete re-cycle centres.

The construction and demolition waste includes concrete, bricks, tiles, stones, soil, rubble, plaster, drywall or gypsum board, wood, plumbing fixtures, non-hazardous insulating materials, plastics, wall paper, glass, metals (such as steel, aluminum), asphalt.

GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said the debris would be transported to the four identified dumping sites at Jeedimetla, Mallapur, Fathullaguda and Kothwalguda where processing plants would come up once the bids are finalised.

The measure has been approved by the standing committee. The waste will further be segregated into metal, stone and cement.

“It may be used to make bricks, pavement blocks, and construction materials such as aggregate,” Dr Janardhan Reddy said.

The GHMC also has approval to collect the debris at Rs 360 a tonne through its own fleet. Citizens can call the call centre on 040-21111111 or contact officials through a mobile app ‘My GHMC App’ for the purpose.

Hyderabad has many bulk generators who generate more than 20 tonnes in a day or 300 tonnes per in a month.

The debris is finding its way into stormwater drains, lake foreshores and is even dumped on the roadsides.
