Heavy rains to go on till September 14: Meteorology Department
Bengaluru: The Meteorology Department recorded 68.4 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am on Saturday, reflecting the total extent of Friday's downpour. The MET Department said that the incessant rainfall is not the highest of this month, as September 1 saw 72 mm.
As per the 'Heavy Rainfall Warning' report of the Meteorological Department, the city should be prepared to face rainfall on all days till September 14.
“On September 14, heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara and Ramanagara districts of south-interior Karnataka," the forecast reads.
Dr Sundar S Metri, Scientist and Head of Meteorological Department, said, “Both systems have acted at once. Due to low atmospheric pressure (trough) and upper air cyclonic circulation above Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall was received.”
BBMP braces for more rains
BBMP and other civic authorities are bracing to avoid further losses in the coming days.
Mayor G. Padmavathi told Deccan Chronicle, “A total of eleven teams have been deployed at various points around the city to avoid water logging. Twenty one other teams will take care of dangerous trees.”
The mayor admitted the case of a youngster getting washed away at Seshadripuram on Friday as an “official mistake.” The slab at the underpass was removed by the officials a couple of days back to prevent water logging.”
