Centre not releasing funds for Puducherry: M Kandasamy

GST has impacted liquor sales as several shops have closed following the introduction of GST.

Puducherry: Though the territorial administration is approaching Centre for funds several times, the Union government is not releasing funds for Puducherry, said welfare mister M Kandasamy here.

Despite approaching the Centre several times, it is not releasing funds for Puducherry, affecting the development of the Union Territory, he said.

He was speaking after distributing promotion orders to eleven welfare inspectors of Adi Dravidar Welfare Department and Women and Child Development Department.

GST has impacted liquor sales as several shops have closed following the introduction of GST. Supreme Court order is also affecting tax revenue collection of the government.

The minister charged that the previous NR Congress government had misused Rs 250 crore by using it for the amount for free mixie and grinder scheme, which could have used it implementing for people's welfare schemes.

It is being ensured that only eligible persons are availing the benefits of freebies at present, Mr Kandasamy said.

"The Congress government came to power promising 100 per cent scholarships for Adi Dravidar students through Centac, but the Lt Governor is not signing the files, the Minister said.
