Sushma cautions Indian students abroad against extortion calls

'They receive fraud calls about some deficiency in their papers and ask for money, failing which they are threatened with deportation.'

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday cautioned Indian students abroad against fake calls made to extort money from them.

In a series of tweets, she said, "Indians students abroad receive fraud calls pointing out some deficiency in their papers. They ask for money failing which they are threatened with deportation. Pl do not fall prey to such calls. These calls are fake.(sic)"

She also asked them to report such calls to the Embassy, which will take up the complaint with police.

"In case you receive such a call, pl always call back on the caller's number. He will deny having made such a call. Also pl report to the Embassy. They will take up your complaint with the Police (sic)," she said.
