Severe burns victim waited for five days at Gandhi Hospital
Hyderabad: Twenty-seven-year-old Nitish from Adilabad, who suffered from severe burn injury flaps around the neck, has now finally recovered and gone back to his home town.
He had huge flaps of skin around the neck due to which movement of his head was not possible. He came on August 9 to Gandhi Hospital and waited for five days for the doctors but didn’t get an appointment.
An NGO saw his plight and helped him get in touch with Aakar Asha Hospital where plastic surgeon Dr Bharatendu Swain surgically removed the flaps in the first session.
Later, two more sessions were done wherein folds of skin in the finger regions were also removed.
He was in the hospital for a month along with his mother Ms K. Shakuntala and successfully completed the rehabilitation process.
Dr Bharatendu Swain explained, “Young burn patients, especially electricians, are found to suffer from severe injuries from the accidents.”
“Often due to lack of treatment they are abandoned by their families who don’t want to take the responsibility of nursing them and bearing the treatment cost. We are trying to identify these patients in rural areas and offer them treatment so that they can lead normal lives. Nitish is one such example,” he told this newspaper.
