Road widening starts in Guntur

The Guntur Municipal Corporation has decided to widen the roads and started removal of encroachments at Arundelpeta.

Guntur: The long-awaited widening of the roads in Guntur has begun. Citizens had been suffering on account of frequent traffic troubles due to encroachments of roads and side drains in busy areas of the city.

The Guntur Municipal Corporation has decided to widen the roads and started removal of encroachments at Arundelpeta.

The GMC has already widened the Kakani Y Junction-Guntur road, Amaravati road, Nandivelugu road and other main roads before Krishna Pushkaralu to ensure free flow of the traffic.

Now, it started concentrating on the roads connecting the main roads and launched the encroachment removal drive. Sankar Vilas center, Brodipeta roads, Arundelpeta lines, Donka road, Kothapeta road and other roads are proposed for widening.

GMC assistant city planner Subba Reddy said that the road from district library of Arundelpet to Donka road would be widened to 60 feet for hassle-free travel.

This is the main road to the railway station, bus station and other important centres so it was natural that the encroachments removal drive started on this road, Mr Subba Reddy said.

He said that old electricity poles and central dividers would be removed and a new divider be constructed after widening of the road.

The GMC officials started marking the road for widening. Locals K. Raghu Vamsi and others said that the heavy traffic and frequent traffic jams during mornings and evenings were delaying students going to and from school and colleges. Welcoming the encroachment removal, they sought widening of all the roads in the city to end traffic jams.
