NTRUHS scam: After flouting rules, blame game begins

NTRUHS has now awarded grace marks to around 50 people.

Vijayawada: Around 46 PG students benefited from the EC resolution of NTRUHS. There were instances earlier of giving grace marks but to only MBBS students, that too in a particular subject.

NTRUHS has opened doors to fresh controversy, by allowing grace marks to the PG students, against the principles and guidelines of MCI. Following this decision, war of words and blame game has started between the medical and health departments of AP and Telangana.

In fact, NTRUHS’ executive council in 2007 had resolved that students cannot claim grace mar-ks as a right and discontinued awarding grace marks to students in order to maintain standard in education as there is no provision in MCI/DCI regulations for awarding grace marks. The University has said that the matter was placed before 172nd meeting of Executive Council held in 2007. After detailed examination, the executive council resolved and the following points were presented before the Court.

Award of grace marks cannot be claimed as a right of student, to follow the guidelines of Medical Council of India (MCI)/ Dental Council of India (DCI), New Delhi regulations and to award the grace marks at the discretion of the vice-chancellor by following a fixed pattern, to discontinue the award of grace marks in all PG Courses offered by this university in order to maintain the standards of medical education and as there is no provision in MCI/DCI regulations.

That no grace marks will be awarded in post graduate degree/diploma courses offered by the university from academic year 2007-2008 was the most important observation and against the same, NTRUHS has now awarded grace marks to around 50 people.

The MCI made PG medical education regulations, 2000, which do not provide for award of grace marks. Regulation No.14 of the said regulation says that a minimum of 50 marks in theory and practical shall be mandatory for passing the whole examination.
