Kakinada: The delimitation process taken up by Kakinada Municipal Corporation has been completed ahead of the civic body elections, changing the boundaries of many divisions. The delimitation was necessitated as three villages — S. Achutapuram, Swamynagar and Teachers Colony — were merged with the city. The number of corporate divisions in Kakinada Rural Mandal has gone up to eight from six. The divisions such as 1 (Area behind boat club), 2 (part of Ramanaiahpet) 3 (Godarigunta), 43 (Swamynagar and Teachers Colony), 47 ( LB Nagar behind GPT), 48 (S. Achutapuram), 49 (Gygollupadu) and 50 (Lalithanagar, Srinivasanagar and others) come under Kakinada Rural Mandal.
The three merged villages have been divided into two divisions. Swamynagar and Teachers Colony come under 43 corporate division and S. Achutapuram comes under 48th division. The corporate divisions in Kakinada Urban Constituency have come down from 44 to 42. The officials have divided the divisions as per population. “We took up the delimitation of the corporate divisions as per guidelines of the government. The officials considered natural boundaries, enumerate blocks and revenue divisions in the city and others in the process and particularly population. The entire process has been done in transparency,” said the Kakinada Municipal Commissioner (KMC) Mr S. Aleem Basha.
