Congress: Package for Andhra Pradesh, why nothing for Telangana?
Hyderabad: While AP is battling for special status and package, demand for similar aid is growing in TS too. After municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao met Union finance minister Arun Jaitely and sought financial aid, Telangana Congress has demanded financial package for the state on par with AP.
T-Congress leaders demanded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to exert pressure on the Centre for implementation of promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.
TRS MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy and other party leaders also sought financial assistance for TS. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir demanded Mr Chandrasekhar Rao to take Congress leaders along and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek funds.
“People of Telangana are in trouble. Farmers, youth and all other sections of the society are unhappy. There are no jobs and no funds. Except for Mission Kakatiya and Water Grid, funds are not being released for any other department. The TRS government has failed to get
Telangana's due share from the Centre,” Mr Shabbir Ali said. He said that Mr Jaitley announced special package of Rs 2.25 lakh-crore for AP, but there was no mention of promises made to Telangana in the AP Reorganisation Act.
“UPA promised Bayyaram steel plant, 4,000 MW power plant at Ramagundem, horticulture and tribal universities, Central institutions and other sops. Who is responsible for this? The TRS government in the state or the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre?” Mr Shabbir Ali asked.
“He (the CM) only makes tall claims like a ‘Sheik Chilli’. With his ‘idiocracy’, KCR has turned a revenue-surplus Telangana into a bankrupt and debt-ridden state in 27 months. He is trying to take loans for every project,” the Congress leader said.
