Cauvery water dispute: HD Deve Gowda reiterates faith in Nariman, pins hope on Modi
Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister Mr H.D. Deve Gowda has reiterated his faith in the state’s counsel in the Supreme Court, Mr Fali Nariman and hopes the Prime Minister will intervene to ensure a favourable outcome for Karnataka in the Cauvery dispute.
After meeting Mr Modi on Friday evening, Mr Gowda said that he had explained the state's plight to the Prime Minister.
“He has collected information through the intelligence wing on the issue. I told him about the Chief Minister’s letter and requested him to convene a Chief Ministers’ meeting. He seems to know about the issue but did not say anything. Usually, he is like that,” Mr Gowda said.
Earlier in the morning, Mr Gowda visited Mr Nariman. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said he could not reveal all details of the discussion. However, he said he was confident that Mr Nariman would do justice to Karnataka in the case.
“We should not listen to unnecessary comments made by people. He knows the case well and he is doing his best. For the last 50 years, I have been fighting for the state’s right to Cauvery water. We discussed a lot of issues but I cannot disclose them all,”' he added.
