People of other communities demand separate Bandhus

Activists of the Reddy, Kummari, Padmashali and BC communities are holding protsets and giving representation to officials

Karimnagar: Representatives of different communities have started protests in poll-bound Huzurabad Assembly constituency of Karimnagar district, demanding that the state government introduce special schemes for them as was done with the Rs.10-lakh-per-family Dalit Bandhu.

Activists of the Reddy, Kummari, Padmashali and BC communities are holding protests and giving representation to officials, demanding ‘Bandhu’ schemes for their communities.

Bereddy Karunakar Reddy, district unit president of the All India Reddy Sangham, alleged that the government was neglecting the people of the OC community. “Before the 2014 elections, the TRS promised a Reddy Corporation with an investment of `10,000 crore. After seven years, the promise is not fulfilled,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh had established a Reddy Corporation, he pointed out. There are many poor families in the OC community who are facing a lot of hardships He demanded that the TS introduce OC Bandhu set up the Reddy Corporation.

Representatives of the Kummari community in a meeting in Ellandhakunta mandal of Huzurabad constituency recently demanded that the government announce Kummari Bandhu.

Silurveru Ranjith, Huzurabad constituency sangham president, alleged that after the formation of Telangana state, the Chief Minister had introduced schemes for different communities but nothing had been done for the people of the Kummari community.

With society moving to plastics, people of the Kummari community who work with clay were left without jobs and were living in a miserable condition, he said.

Apart from Kummari Bandhi, Ranjith sought government land to continue their caste profession and sanctioning pension to the community apart from electricity equipment.

Some Padmashali community members are on a relay hunger strike in front of the mandal revenue office of Kamalapur mandal of Huzurabad constituency, demanding Chenetha Bandhu.

Tumma Shoban Babu, president of the Padmashali Sangham, said the government had Rythu Bandhu for the farmers but neglected had the Padmashalis, who were dependent on weaving of clothes.

Before rolling out Dalit Bandhu in Huzurabad, the CM should announce Chenetha Bandhu during his August 16 meeting in the constituency, Shoban Babu said. If he does not do so, the Padmashali people will take up indefinite strike, Shoban Babu warned.

K. Mahesh of BC Sankshema Sangham speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that there is no development in living standards of the people belonging to the community. They had only been used as a votebank, he said. He demanded BC Bandhu for the community.
