Tiruchy: A group of denotified tribals led by Forward Bloc president Kasimayan staged a novel demonstration by dressing themselves in Tribal attire, to mark the National Tribals day here on Friday. They were among other things, demanding 9 per cent exclusive reservation for them from the existing 27 per cent reservation for the OBCs’ in central government educational institutions and services.

Speaking on the occasion, state president of the Desiya Then Indhiya Nathigal Inaippu Vivasayegal Sangam P. Ayyakannu said after prolonged struggle, the Central and Tamil Nadu Governments re-designated the denotified community as denotified tribals. However, the Tamil Nadu State Government refused to provide nine per cent exclusive reservation for them and suggested they approach the Union Government and to get an exclusive reservation from its scheme.

Mr. Ayyakannu warned that if both Central and State government did not provide nine per cent exclusive reservation for the DNT, they will intensify their struggle further.
