Chennai: Two die in twin accidents in city
CHENNAI: Two persons died and one another injured in two separate accidents in the city.
A 30-year-old woman died and her husband sustained injuries as their bike was hit by a speeding water tanker from behind on the Kovilampakkam junction, on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Muthu Lakshmi, resident of Gundumedu in Perungalathur.
Police said, Lakshmi and her husband Sekar (35) , a private firm employee, were heading to Thura-ipakkam to attend a family function on Thursday around 7:30 pm. When they were on the Pallavaram - Thuraipakkam 200-feet-radial road, a speeding water tanker hit their two-wheeler. Both were thrown off the vehicle. Muthu Lakshmi sustained head and chest injuries and died on the spot, while Sekar escaped with minor injuries.
The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Based on information, St. Thomas Mount traffic police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Chrompet government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and search launched for the driver.
In another mishap, a security guard was knocked down by a speeding bike while crossing the road near Velachery earlier this week. The 45-year-old man died on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Munuswamy, of Maraimalai Nagar, in Kancheepuram. Sources said, he worked as a security guard in a private apartment in Velachery. On August 2 afternoon, Munuswamy was walking to a restaurant for lunch. While crossing the Tambaram -Velachery main road, a speeding two-wheeler heading towards Tambaram knocked him down.
Munuswamy sustained injuries and he was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital for treatment. During the early hours of Friday, he died.
