Traffic cops zoom in on dangerous spots in city

Cyberabad has witnessed 1,809 accidents till June.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad traffic police have identified five black spots where maximum accidents occur. These include TCS to Cyber Towers, Kondapur to Botanical T-Junction, Gachibowli to NCB Junction, NCB Bhavan to Shah Ghouse Hotel, and Dargah to Pochamma Temple

At several places in these accident prone zones, construction activity is taking place. Cyberabad has witnessed a total of 1,809 accidents till June both fatal and non-fatal.

Techie Ramesh Kumar said, “These construction activities will go on for years as the area is in a transitional phase. There is no chance of us cutting down on our travel time at least in near future if we work in Cyberabad. The civic body should provide road utilities when they are taking up construction. Alternate routes should be developed instead of just passing the buck from traffic to civic body or vice versa.”

There is not only a dearth of roads, but also pedestrian infrastructure. About 389 pedestrian accidents took place both fatal and non-fatal. Since June, a major U-Turn at TCS was shut off leaving techies annoyed, as commuters from Cyber Towers have to travel 2 km close to biodiversity junction to take a U-turn. Apart from the Metro Rail and flyover construction activity, the roads around the new store are not totally operational.

Another techie Gaurav Gupta said, “There was a cycling track at the Biodiveristy junction previously. Now we don’t even have a footpath let alone a cycling track. We often see digging going on but no restoration is happening. Crossing roads is nothing short of a nightmare.”

The Cyberabad traffic strength is about 704. When congestion is reported, the traffic police are deployed on case by case basis. DCP Traffic Cyberabad Vijay Kumar said, “This area is in a transitional phase, traffic management and road safety is our priority. We are using integrated traffic management system to manage traffic. We are becoming accessible for people and we also request commuters to be more cautious and follow traffic rules.”
