Life paralysed in Puttur as rain pounds Dakshina Kannada

The landslide at Gandibagilu is said to have injured about four people.

Mangaluru: With rivers brimming due to incessant rain in the Ghat section and in the foothills since Wednesday, normal life was affected in many places in Puttur and Belthangady taluks of Dakshina Kannada district.

Traffic on National Highway 75 was affected as the Gundya rivulet was flooded. Traffic was disrupted in places like Nelyadka, Udane and Shiradi from Thursday morning till about 11 am.

The landslide at Gandibagilu is said to have injured about four people.

Due to the flood at Adda Hole near Gundya, water entered four houses with two families shifted to the nearby government school. One house was partially damaged at Ichlampady. The 'Snana Ghatta,' at the famed Kukke Subrahmanya shrine too was flooded and so were the two routes leading to the temple.

The hanging bridge leading to Sri Shishileshwara Temple at Shishila too was flooded with water entering the temple premises. Several acres of paddy fields were flooded in Belthangady and Puttur taluks. However the rain declined towards the evening.
