Hyderabad: Mode of payment decides healthcare
Hyderabad: The tariff for medical procedures is divided into four parts like Aarogyasri, Central Government Health Scheme, private insurance and cash, according to which the rates are presented and decided.
In Aarogyasri, the wards are different, materials used are of a different quality and the nursing care personnel are separate. In CGHS the care is better than Aarogyasri and the quality of materials is of superior quality as these are government employees and hence the facilities are up to the mark.
In private insurance, it is based on the insurance cover of the patient and also the wards that they choose post care for the recovery. The pricing is based on the facilities that they want at the hospital.
Those who pay by cash are very limited but there are families who do not have insurance cover and for them the selection of the wards decides the facilities offered at the hospital in post-operative care.
Hospitals time and again argue that the high costs are for the facilities like nursing care, maintenance of clean and neat premises, hygienic conditions and also their infection control mechanism in the operation theatres.
The estimates drawn from the hospital sector state that maintaining one hospital bed for a year costs Rs 18 lakh to Rs 1crore.
