Hyderabad High Court reserves its orders on petition

The DG prisons informed the court that the names of the petitioners were also included in the list of 149 prisoners.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday reserved its orders on a petition questioning the alleged discrimination of the AP government in granting remission to the life convicts. Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was concluding gearing of the petition some of life convicts in deleting their names while issuing the GO 8 on January 23, 2018 to release the convicts on the Republic Day.

The petitioners told the court that as per the guidelines prescribed by the government they are eligible for the remission but the government has released the ineligible. Mr Vinay Ranjan Ray, Director General of Prisons in his affidavit filed before the court submitted that the Internal Scrutiny Committee headed by the Inspector General of Prisons after scrutinizing the lists of convicted prisoner as per the guidelines and submitted a list of 149 convicts found to be eligible for special remission and accordingly the list was forwarded to the government and the government after perusal of the list granted remission to only 49 prisoners to release on January 26, 2018.

The DG prisons informed the court that the names of the petitioners were also included in the list of 149 prisoners. and the state government would release the convicts under premature release on October 2, 2017 which is 150th Mahatma Gandhiji’s birthday and the cases if the petitioners will be reviewed again.
