Thiruvananthapuram: CPM central committee member E.P. Jayarajan is all set to be sworn in as minister on August 17 (Chingam 1).

The swearing in has been planned two days before the beginning of Chef Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s 17-day US visit for medical treatment at the reputed Mayo clinic. A final decision on inducting Jayarajan and the swearing-in would be...

Thiruvananthapuram: ....taken at the emergency state committee meeting taking place at the AKG Centre on Friday.

Earlier, the party was planning to induct Jayarajan soon after the state committee meeting. However, a section in the party felt that it would not be auspicious to hold the swearing in ceremony during Karkidakam. Hence, many want the swearing-in to be held on August 17.

The CPI which is backing the move to bring back Jayarajan into LDF government would be accommodated suitably.

The LDF state leadership meeting scheduled to take place on Monday will ratify the CPM decision paving the way for Jayarajan’s return. He will retain his industries portfolio. Besides, the Chief Minister is also likely to handover the charge to Jayarajan during the entire period of his US visit.

The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) had closed the case against Jayarajan in September last year for lack of evidence.

Jayarajan was forced to quit Pinarayi Vijayan Cabinet in October 2016 after the state secretariat found lapses on his part in appointing Sreemathy’s son P.K. Sudheer as KSIE MD. While the state Secretariat had left the decision on disciplinary action against them to the central leadership as both were members of the central committee, the process got delayed because of CPM state leadership could not submit a detailed report to the central leadership in time.
