Hyderabad: The overflowing Musi river at Pochampally claimed one life on Wednesday morning. The water level in the river rose above the foot over bridge due to the heavy rains, which also forced a biker to fall after losing balance. He was rescued by locals at Budham Pochampally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
The first incident took place at around 8 am on Wednesday wherein the victim was washed away by the strong currents. Narrating the incident, the police said, “The locals are claiming to have seen a man being washed away in the overflowing water above the bridge. But nobody has registered a complaint with us.”
“There is no confirmation about the man who was washed away in the river yet. It’s a speculation as of now and it will be confirmed by tomorrow morning,” Tehsildar Ashok Reddy said and added, “We have closed the route to avoid further calamities.”
Again, at around 9.30 am, another man, P. Jaipal Reddy, from the Pochampally area lost control of his bike and fell into the water with the bike. “The locals successfully pulled him out and rescued him quickly,” said the tehsildar “His bike is still in the river. It will take a day or two to fish out the vehicle” said the police.
In June last year, the traffic was halted for hours due to the overflowing river between Pochampally and Bibinagar mandals. The Musi river originates from the Anantagiri Hills near Vikarabad and flows the Krishna river.
