Karnataka: PIL against PoP Ganesha idols ban dismissed

The petitioners had approached the court on the ground that KSPCB's ban will affect them dearly as they have already invested lot of money.

Bengaluru: The High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking directions to allow the use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) for manufacturing and sale of Ganesha idols.

The petitioners had approached the court questioning the act of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) in preventing manufacture, sale, and use of Ganesh idols made out of PoP and painted with harmful chemicals.

The petitioners had approached the court on the ground that KSPCB's ban will affect them dearly as they have already invested a lot of money by availing loan on the raw material of PoP.

They had further argued that the authorities issued the ban on the use of PoP, despite assuring that they would hold a meeting with them to hear their grievances.
