Hyderabad: Kids forced to fetch water for school

Hyderabad: Three students of a primary school in Chawni Nade Ali Baig in Old City were forced, by the school authorities, to fetch potable water from a public tap. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and it was filmed by a few onlookers.

In the videos, three students of the Government Primary School Chawni Nade Ali Baig No. 1, which is located at Dabeerpura, are seen holding a steel pot filled with water and struggling to carry it from the tap to their school. They are clad in their school uniforms.

Amjedullah Khan, the spokesperson for Majlis Bachao Tehreek, said that the teachers ordered students to collect water from a public source and bring it to the school. “Ironically, the school also serves a midday meal. Imagine how the students must be managing without water,” he said.

He asked the State government to immediately make provisions for the supply of water to the school, and for stern action to be taken against the school authorities. “The government, without providing proper facilities, is forcing students to turn into child labourers. If a person employs a child, a case is registered against him,” Mr Khan said.in this case,” Mr Khan said. The school authorities were unavailable for comment.
