Begumpet bomb blasts verdict today

On October 12, 2005, a bomb blast at the Task Force Office killed a home guard and a Bangladeshi bomber.

Hyderabad: The Metropolitan Sessions Court of Nampally will pronounce its judgement on Thursday in the Begumpet Task Force Office bomb blast case that is approaching conclusion after 12 years.

On October 12, 2005, a bomb blast at the Task Force Office killed a home guard and a Bangladeshi bomber. A Special Investigation Team of the Central Crime Station conducted an inquiry and found the Harkatul Jihad Islami of Bangladesh to have been involved in the blast.

It arrested 10 persons, identified as Mohammed Abdul Zahid, Abdul Kaleem, Shakeel, Syed Haji, Ajmal Ali Khan, Azmat Ali, Mahmood Baroodwala, Shaik Abdul Khaja, Nafees Biswas and Bilaluddin, a Bangladeshi citizen, and filed chargesheets against them.

The SIT claimed that two accused, Mohammed Abdul Shahid alias Bilal and Gulam Yazdani, had been killed in encounters in Pakistan and New Delhi. It alleged that they were the masterminds behind the Task Force Office bombing.

The case filed after the bombing was split into two. In the first part, examination and cross examination have been completed, and arguments of the defence are being heard. In the second part, witnesses for the prosecution are still being heard.

The trials began in 2007. Of the 20 accused mentioned in the chargesheets, eight were arrested.

In 2010, the HC granted an injunction on an alteration in the case. The injunction was vacated within a year when the case was shifted from the Metropolitan Sessions Judge to the Special Court for Communal Disturbances.

The trial was stalled for two years from 2012 as investigating officer M. Diwakar, a former ACP of the SIT, was out of the country. It resumed upon his return. In June 2016, the court rejected bail application of Nafees Biswas of West Bengal, one of the accused.
