GIS-2017 matter of prestige for CM: KT Rama Rao
Hyderabad: If nothing else, the grand Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GIS-2017), to be held at HICC in November, may upgrade infrastructure in the city. Or at least those parts of the city that the international delegates are likely to see.
The state government has allotted Rs 500 crore for improvement of roads, traffic junctions, beautification, and sanitation. The government wants to arrange special trips for delegates to the three-day summit to showcase the rich cultural and historical legacy and diversity of Hyderabad.
IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the summit was a matter of prestige, as the event was being held in India for the first time.
He said US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump would lead the US delegation, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event.
Officials of NITI Aayog, which has been designated as the nodal agency to organise the event, will visit the city and meet Mr Rao soon to plan the arrangements for the event.
A team of senior officials from HMDA, GHMC, municipal administration and urban development, metro water and sewerage board and traffic police has been constituted to identify and plan the development programmes, he said.
“The work will be taken up on a war footing once the monsoon ends in September. The work will begin in October first week and end by November first week. Beautification works will be taken up in the final stage, which will focus on greenery, fountains and LED lighting,” Mr Rao said.
Mr Rama Rao said the infrastructure once spruced up will cater to three major events from November 2017 to March 2018, namely the Globan Investment Summit, Indian Science Congress, and World IT Congress.
