Sarjapur residents oppose road widening
BENGALURU: Sarjapur residents are up in arms against road widening as they alleged that under the pretext of widening the Sarjapur Road they were being exploited by BBMP officials.
They claimed that only a preliminary land acquisition survey was done and has been published without taking up any discussion on compensation.
Sharing their woes, Ramachandra Reddy, who heads the committee formed to fight against the exploitation, said, "The existing 24-metre road is being widened to 45 metres and a large number of private property is being occupied for the same. What will be the fate of those who lose their properties and livelihood for road widening?"
Residents also said that as per Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rules 2014, social impact assessment of the road widening project is mandatory and that hasn't happened till date.
The residents claimed that the road widening, which is taken up to ease traffic congestion could be met by improving the arterial roads from Sarjapur, which lead to the tech parks.
