Students protest for traffic signal in Bengaluru

A final year B.Com student died at the Yediyur Circle after he was fatally knocked down by a KSRTC bus, because of signal confusion.

Bengaluru: High drama prevailed near Yediyur circle near Government First Grade College on Monday after the students staged a flash protest demanding setting up of a traffic signal and deployment of traffic police at the circle.

On Monday, a final year B.Com student died at the Yediyur Circle after he was fatally knocked down by a KSRTC bus, because of signal confusion. During the protest the students raised the issue of poor traffic management at the circle and have also written to the DCP (south zone) in this regard.

According to the police, the incident happened around 8 am when the student, Shiva Shankar, was going on his bike. While taking a right turn to enter college he got knocked down by a KSRTC bus.

Shiva hailed from Kollegal and was residing in Tilak Nagar along with his relatives. The bus was coming from Kanakapura and heading towards City Market.

Shivashankar fell down and suffered severe injuries. The other students and passersby shifted him to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead, said the police.

The students called off their protest after Banshankari traffic police gave an assurance to set up a signal and deploy a policeman, police added.
