KANNUR: The Anthoor municipality has finally given clearance for the Partha Convention Centre at Bekkalam, 20 days after NRK entrepreneur Sajan committed suicide over the intransigent attitude of the authorities towards his enterprise.
The municipality issued occupancy certificate to the convention centre on Tuesday following the intervention of higher authorities, including the chief minister, and the public outrage over the civic body forcing the businessman to take the extreme step on June 18.
The family of Sajan Parayil submitted a fresh application to the municipality on Tuesday. The engineering wing had pointed out six irregularities in the construction, out of which five were rectified.
The owners gave an assurance through a bond that the water tank will be shifted to another spot within six months as pointed out in the certificate.
A high-level team from the department of urban affairs collected the details and examined the documents regarding the delay in issuing occupancy certificate. The officials also examined the site and cross-checked the charge of municipal officials that it had violated building rules and regulations.
The municipality had repeatedly denied the certificate allegedly due to the intra-party squabble within the CPM.
Sajan’s family had alleged that the stand taken by P.K. Syamala, wife of CPM central committee member M.V. Govindan Master, had forced the businessman to end his life. CPM leader P. Jayarajan had also criticised Syamala over the issue.
