Tamil Nadu assembly budget session concludes with 19 bills

The session began with the governor's address in January followed by the budget session for a total of 33 days.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu assembly session drew to a close on Monday after 33 days of fruitful discussion and decision-making.

The session began with the governor’s address in January followed by the budget session for a total of 33 days. The highlights of the session were the plastic ban, which was announced on World Environment Day, June 5 and will come into force in January 2019.

A new harbour is to be built at Thiruvottiyur at a cost of Rs 100 crore and the Anna and Jaya Memorial will be improved soon.

It is to be noted that the CM was present for all days of the session and actively involved in the discussion and debate. The Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam closed the assembly session and initiated the resolution. Following this, Speaker P Dhanapal adjourned the assembly. The last day of the Assembly saw the most active discussions with 19 bills being passed.
