No bidder for drainage works at Mallikarjun Nagar
HYDERABAD: Even after floating tenders four times, no contractor has put up a bid for the project to lay drainage lines at Mallikarjun Nagar, Malkajgiri. Contractors say it was practically difficult to finish the project in such low amount. However, the situation on the ground has worsened with many elderly citizens and children falling ill because of the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the area.
Residents fear that with the monsoon rains strengthening, their homes will be inundated by sewage water from the sewage pool in the adjacent railway land. When contacted, Mr Anil Raj, executive engineer, Malkajgiri division, said, “The work is a bit complicated and that is the reason why the contractors are reluctant to bid for the project. Many contractors also have a problem with the estimated rate and we have revised it. We have also discussed personally with other contractors and tried convincing them for the bid. We hope this time we will get a contractor to bid for the work.”
Mr Anil Raj also said that Rs179 lakhs had been sanctioned for the project earlier, but no bidders had came. However, a trench in the railway open land has been excavated and vents were made under the railway track as precautionary measures.
