Kiran Bedi welcomes SC judgment on death sentence to Nirbhaya convicts

Describing the incident as 'most gruesome crime' , the former IPS officer said that Nirbhaya finally got justice.

Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi welcomed the Supreme Court judgment upholding death sentence given to the three convicts in the sensational December 2012 'Nirbhaya' gangrape and murder case.

Describing the incident as 'most gruesome crime' , the former IPS officer said that Nirbhaya finally got justice.

"Nirbhaya finally gets Justice. It was most gruesome crime.This is rarest of rare in a death penalty award.", She wrote in her twitter account.

She had also praised the investigation team for carrying out the case in a perfect way "Gratitude to all officers and experts who did a perfect investigation by a team led by then Delhi police commisioner Neeraj Kumar", she said.

Ms Bedi also said that the 'Nirbhaya case' will be fit for judicial,law and police academies.

It was on Monday the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan delivered the judgement on the pleas of Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23) to review the its verdict upholding the death penalty awarded to them.
