Hyderabad: Students who scored less marks but are still looking forward to getting into degree colleges have hope in the third phase of counselling.
As per college managements, the minimum qualifying percentage is 35 per cent, the cut off at the best colleges is 70 to 80 per cent.
Degree college managements advised students who scored less marks to opt for more colleges during registration to improve their chances.
According to them, students who tend to score lower marks take up job-oriented courses.
The Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) has 1.4 lakh seats in the first phase of counselling and 1.6 lakh in the second.
Mr Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, general secretary of the Telangana Degree College Associations, said, “There are so many seats available in degree courses that any student, whether they scored less or more marks, doesn’t have to worry about getting admission. But students who scored less marks have to wait till DOST announces its seats after the third round of counselling.”
DOST convener Venkat Chalam said the web counselling system automatically filters the marks while selecting the students for counselling.
Mr Sudharshan Reddy, director of Shivani Degree College, said, “Last year 80 per cent seats were filled in our college, among which 30 per cent were students who scored below 55 per cent marks.”
“Students who score less take up courses like BCom General, BSc Statistics and BSc Life Science. Every student who registers will definitely get admission in a degree college. We suggest the students who scored less should select more options while registering in DOST,” he said.
